2019 Volvo XC40 Interior, Exterior and Drive

Volvo's new subcompact luxury SUV will offer a lot of firsts for the company. It will be the first time Volvo has offered an SUV this small, and it will be the first vehicle in Volvo's lineup to offer a unique ownership plan called Care by Volvo. At launch, there will be two versions of the XC40 available: the T5 Momentum and the T5 R-Design. Both use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (248 horsepower, 258 lb-feet of torque), an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Many of the differences between the two are aesthetic, though the R-Design does receive a few more conveniences. models and features The T5 Momentum comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, a power liftgate, rearview parking camera and rain-sensing wipers. Inside you'll find leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver seat, USB outlets for the front and back seats, a 12.3-inch display in place of a traditional gauge cluster, and a 9-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration. Wi-Fi connectivity and Volvo On Call app integration are also included. Volvo On Call lets you lock, unlock and start your car from your phone, as well as access emergency services, sync calendars and navigation destinations (in nav-equipped cars), set up maintenance appointments, and even have items delivered to the trunk of your vehicle. On top of an extensive list of passive safety features, Volvo has also included quite a few active safety features. The XC40 comes standard with a forward collision warning and automatic braking system that detects cars, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. There's also lane keeping assist, distance alert, hill descent control and hill start assist, road sign information and even rear collision warning, which works to mitigate rear crashes. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional extras on the T5 Momentum. Optional equipment includes a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, navigation, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, power-folding and auto-dimming mirrors, active headlights, a 360-degree camera, parking assist, front and rear parking sensors, and a panoramic moonroof. Most notably, the Premium package adds adaptive cruise control, dual-zone climate control, a wireless charging pad, power-folding rear seats, a power front passenger seat, proximity entry, a hands-free tailgate and some interior storage upgrades. Upgrading to the T5 R-Design gets you quite a few aesthetic tweaks both inside and out, including unique leather upholstery and a contrasting roof and mirrors. You also get a sport-tuned chassis, 19-inch wheels, foglights, a hands-free tailgate, proximity entry, power-adjustable passenger seat, dual-zone climate control with a cooled glovebox, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, paddle shifters and navigation. competition The XC40 has the advantage of being the newest vehicle in its segment. The BMW X1 offers strong performance and handling and a roomy interior for the class, though the ride might be too firm for some. For an even sportier experience, there's the Mercedes-Benz GLA, which has an extensive list of optional upgrades but a stiff ride. Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque boasts an impressively designed interior and a high level of luxury, with the concomitant price premium. availability Production of the XC40 will begin in November, and customers opting for the Care by Volvo subscription package can pre-order now. Deliveries in the U.S. are not expected until early next year. pricing The 2019 XC40 T5 Momentum will start at $36,195, and the T5 R-Design will start at $38,695. 2018 Volvo XC40 Explained

At the same time as it introduces the XC40, Volvo Cars also reinvents the traditional model of car ownership with its new ‘Care by Volvo’ subscription service. Care by Volvo, first available on the XC40 from launch, makes having a car as transparent, easy and hassle free as having a phone. A monthly flat-fee subscription means down payments, price negotiations and local price differences belong to the past. Depending on regional availability, Care by Volvo will also include access to a range of digital concierge services such as fuelling, cleaning, service pick-up and e-commerce delivery to the car. The XC40 with Care by Volvo is available to order online from today in selected markets. Read more about Care by Volvo here. XC40 drivers will also be the first Volvo customers who can share their car with friends and family via Volvo on Call with a new digital key technology. Car sharing comes as standard for Care by Volvo customers. The arrival of the XC40 means that for the first time in its history, Volvo Cars has three new, globally available SUVs in what is the fastest growing segment of the automotive market, paving the way for further growth in terms of sales and profitability. The new XC40 is the first model on Volvo Cars’ new modular vehicle architecture (CMA), which will underpin all other upcoming cars in the 40 Series including fully electrified vehicles. Co-developed within Geely, CMA provides the company with the necessary economies of scale for this segment. “The XC40 is our first entry in the small SUV segment, broadening the appeal of the Volvo brand and moving it in a new direction,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive. “It represents a fresh, creative and distinctive new member of the Volvo line-up. So it only feels natural to reveal the XC40 here in Milan, a buzzing European hotspot for fashion, art, design and lifestyle.” In terms of technology, the XC40 brings the award-winning safety, connectivity and infotainment technologies known from the new 90- and 60 Series cars to the small SUV segment. Like its larger siblings, the XC40 highlights the transformational effect of these new, in-house developed technologies on brand and profitability. These technologies make the XC40 one of the best-equipped small premium SUVs on the market. Safety and driver assistance features on the XC40 include Volvo Cars’ Pilot Assist system, City Safety, Run-off Road protection and mitigation, Cross Traffic alert with brake support and the 360° Camera that helps drivers manoeuvre their car into tight parking spaces. The XC40 also offers a radically new approach to storage inside the car. Ingenious interior design provides XC40 drivers with, among other things, more functional storage space in the doors and under the seats, a special space for phones including inductive charging, a fold-out hook for small bags and a removable waste bin in the tunnel console. From start of production, the XC40 will be available with a D4 diesel or a T5 petrol four-cylinder Drive-E powertrain. Further powertrain options, including a hybridised as well as a pure electric version, will be added later. The XC40 will also be the first Volvo model to be available with Volvo Cars’ new 3-cylinder engine. Get More Great Car Videos - Subscribe:
